Disgust at offensive graffiti sprayed around children’s playground

An offensive racist word was sprayed on the ground in the New Road Play Area in Woodstock alongside anatomical images at the weekend.

Meanwhile similar offensive graffiti has appeared in Bladon Woods.

Mayor of Woodstock Nick Manby-Brown said: “Woodstock Town Council is disgusted and saddened at the recent graffiti that appeared in a playground over the weekend.

“As soon as the town council was made aware of the graffiti it was reported to the police and the staff at the council made arrangements for the graffiti to be removed.

“Most of the larger graffiti were removed on Monday afternoon by a specialist company.”

He added: “To help the town council to deal with anti-social behaviour, we would like to ask if anyone sees any graffiti or other vandalism to report it to Woodstock Town Council on 01993 811216 and should they witness vandalism actually taking place to call 101 to report it.

“And should anyone have any information about the people responsible for any vandalism in the area to contact Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800-555111.”

In 2020 a swastika and offensive terms were spray painted on to a tree in the same park.

Ashley Vine, clerk of Bladon Parish Council, confirmed there had been graffiti in their playground recently.

She said: “Sadly, yes. The graffiti in Bladon was on trees on Blenheim Estate near Orchard Lane.

“Blenheim are aware and will clean it off if they haven’t done so already.

“The police were also notified in case the two are connected.”
