Rochester Man Sentenced to Prison For Fleeing Police

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) – A man with a long criminal history in the Rochester area is back to prison.

53-year-old Hoang Duong has been sentenced to a total of 29 months in prison for his convictions on a felony charge of fleeing police, a felony drug possession charge, and a felony violation of a no-contact order. Two misdemeanor charges connected to the fleeing police were dismissed through the plea agreement.

The fleeing police conviction stems from a traffic stop on North Broadway in Rochester in early March. The criminal complaint says Duong was pulled over for multiple traffic violations but then drove away from the officer after he spotted evidence of illegal drugs and ordered K-9 officer to the scene to search the vehicle.

The court document says the officers involved decided not to chase the vehicle. It was found several days later outside a Northwest Rochester business, where Duong was taken into custody.

The felony drug conviction was connected to his arrest last October after he was caught in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine. The no-contact order conviction is connected to a separate case in Goodhue County.

Duong’s criminal history in the Rochester area dates back to the late 1990s with convictions for felony drug possession, felony domestic assault, and fleeing police.
