In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, The Underground Art Report is thrilled to announce a captivating new exhibition, Urban Latino.
Urban Latino, presented by Lalo Tequila and guest-curated by the internationally renowned graffiti artist Joan Jimenez, also known as ENTES will be opening on September 14, 2024, at Miami’s Private Gallery, this dynamic showcase celebrates the colorful and culturally significant world of Latin American graffiti and contemporary art.
A Vibrant Tapestry of Urban Art
Urban Latino shines a spotlight on the vibrant streets of Latin America and the United States, offering a unique glimpse into the artistry and cultural storytelling rooted in graffiti. Often viewed as a rebellious art form, graffiti in Latin America has long served as a powerful medium for political and social commentary. Now, Urban Latino brings these public art masterpieces from the streets into the gallery, blending them with the raw energy of contemporary studio works. Through bold colors and striking imagery, the featured artists explore themes of identity, resistance, and unity within the Latin American experience.
Curated by ENTES, whose murals have graced walls across the globe, this exhibition transcends the boundaries of traditional galleries. Visitors are invited to journey from the bustling streets of Lima and Bogotá to the neighborhoods of Miami, experiencing the rich diversity of Latin American graffiti culture. This exhibition honors both the legacy of pioneering graffiti artists and the rising stars of the contemporary urban art scene.
A Celebration of Legacy and Innovation
The exhibition will feature works from legendary figures in the graffiti world, such as Lady Pink, John “CRASH” Matos, Erni Vales, and Carlos “Mare” Rodriguez. These trailblazers have paved the way for a new generation of talent, including Miami-based artists like Ras Terms, Vic Garcia, Gustavo Oviedo, Jenny Perez, and ENTES himself. Together, they represent the evolution of urban art from the streets to the gallery, showcasing its relevance as a form of cultural expression that transcends borders.
Urban Latino is not only a celebration of artistic achievement but a tribute to the enduring spirit of the Latin American graffiti movement, which continues to challenge the status quo and inspire communities worldwide. With its focus on themes of social justice, equality, and resistance, the exhibition serves as a reminder of the powerful role that street art plays in shaping and reflecting Latin American heritage.
