The sidewalks of Whittier City Hall will be transformed into a tapestry of colors and creativity this weekend.
Whittier residents of all ages can show off their art skills at this year’s free chalk art contest – Chalktastic – presented by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and the Whittier Cultural Arts Commission.
The community event will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at City Hall, 13230 Penn St. Artists will turn a 4-foot-by-4-foot concrete square into their canvas, and will compete in age categories: 5-7 years old, 8-10 years old, 11-13 years old, 14-17 years old, and 18 and over. Prizes will be awarded in each age group and overall People’s Choice.
There will also be chalk art demonstrations by pro artists, games, food vendors, crafts, music, a library pop-up and more.
To register, visit WhittierRec.com. Registration is free and includes a 16-color chalk kit and kneeling pad. For more information, call 562-567-9430.
