Administrators at UMass Boston are investigating incidents of antisemitic graffiti found in an array of bathrooms around campus, per school officials.
The graffiti was reportedly found last week and school administrators were made aware of it Monday, according to NBC Boston.
The Chancellor of the university, Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, released a letter to the school community obtained by the outlet Monday morning, stating that the “vile” and “hateful” graffiti was found in several bathrooms in various buildings on campus. He called the incident a hate crime.
“There can be no equivocation on what this is: a hate crime that strikes at the heart of who we are,” wrote Suárez-Orozco. “And we should all be outraged that this reprehensible, cowardly behavior has infiltrated the UMass Boston community.”
Suárez-Orozco said university administrators are investigating the incidents and declared that the university “must” condemn antisemitism in all forms and commit to “modelling antiracist norms and behavior.”
The Chencellor added that those responsible will be held accountable.
The details about the graffiti were not revealed in the letter.
The occurrence at UMass comes as a slew of other universities are under investigation for discrimination amid the Hamas-Israel war. Among the other schools being investigated are Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, Tulane University and more.
