Global Street Art, the UK’s largest and leading mural-painting organisation, has unveiled a stunning new 286m² portrait of Rembrandt at 100 Mare Street, to announce the forthcoming London Mural Festival 2024, which touches down in August of next year.
Global Street Art was responsible for the first (and fully socially-distanced) London Mural Festival in 2020 during the height of covid-19, which saw over 200 artists paint across 75 different sites in 13 London Boroughs.
The Rembrandt mural – and London Mural Festival – are funded by Global Street Art, a Hand-Painted Advertising (HPA) company and media owner that reinvests profits from commissioned hand-painted advertisements into community initiatives.
The inaugural London Mural Festival was featured on broadcast TV nine times (including on BBC Breakfast) and had an estimated press reach of just under a billion impressions. LMF 2024 will empower artists to create their own art on walls across London at an even larger scale than the first edition of the festival.
Justine Simons OBE, deputy mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries said, “Murals breathe life and energy into our walls, turning the city into a gallery and bringing art to everyone, every day for free. Today’s unveiling of a magnificent 286 metres squared Rembrandt portrait is a great way to kick off the announcement of the London Mural Festival 2024, which will see hundreds of artists take part, helping us build a better city for all.”
Lee Bofkin, CEO and co-founder of Global Street Art, commented, “London Mural Festival is an incredible initiative, borne out of our love for public art and our mission to live in painted cities. We can’t wait to bring the festival back to our beloved city next summer.”
London Mural Festival is working with a diverse range of partners to make the festival a reality. If you work with a public or private body that is keen to know more about being involved then please contact LMF@globalstreetart.com.
