2024 International Youth Art Contest: Merging Art and Digital Innovation for Wildlife Conservation
The 2024 International Youth Art Contest, a global initiative marking World Wildlife Day (WWD), has been launched by the International Fund For Animal Welfare (IFAW). The contest, themed ‘Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation,’ invites young artists, aged between 4 to 18, to present their artistic interpretations of wildlife conservation, focusing on species that benefit from digital conservation tools.
Embracing Technology in Conservation
These digital tools, including camera traps, tracking collars, remote sensors, smartphone apps, and VHS Radio and Satellite tracking systems, have revolutionized our approach to wildlife conservation, enabling a more effective monitoring and protection of endangered species. While the contest does not require the depiction of these technologies directly, it strongly encourages participants to understand and reflect upon their impact on conservation.
Artistic Expression: Traditional or Digital
The contest welcomes all forms of artistic expression, from traditional mediums such as markers, crayons, pencils, and paint, to digital creations using illustration software. The artworks should portray the chosen species either individually or in their natural habitats, capturing the intricate bond between wildlife and technology.
Engaging Youth in Wildlife Conservation
This global initiative, a collaboration between IFAW, the CITES Secretariat, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to engage the youth in wildlife conservation through the medium of art. The contest is open for submissions until February 6, 2024. The finalists and winning pieces will be unveiled during the WWD event on March 4, 2024, offering a platform for young artists to contribute to the global conversation on wildlife conservation.
