Street art on Salis appears near Hungarian embassy – TopNews

A piece of street art on Ilaria
Salis, an Italian antifascist on trial in Budapest for allegedly
attacking two neo-Nazis and whose detention conditions have
sparked protests from Rome, appeared overnight near the
Hungarian embassy showing her breaking the chains she was
brought into court in.

The 39-year-old Monza elementary school teacher, who protested a
Nazi WWII regiment commemoration in February last year, leading
to the alleged incident in which the men were slightly hurt, is
shown soaring into the sky with the words “Ila resist” written
on her blouse.

Artist Laika said: “Salis has been held in Hungary for 11 months
in inhumane conditions. The images we saw from the courtroom
seem to have come from Tehran, not a country in the European
Union. Not even Breivik in Norway, the terrorist of the Utopia
massacre who made a Nazi salute in the courtroom, was chained
like that”.

Rome protested after Salis was led into court on a chain with
her hands and ankles cuffed.

She is also allegedly being held in a jail with bedbugs, rats
and routine mistreatment, her supporters say, a claim Budapest
denies.

Her father says she was tortured in order to get her to confess
to her alleged crime.

The Hunagarian prosecutor has asked for a prison term of 11
years but Salis’s father says she risks as long as 24 years in
jail.

The alleged victims of her alleged attack did not reportedly
complain to police.
