MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The Marquette City Police Department is investigating a string of recent graffiti downtown. A handful of businesses have seen graffiti outside their walls.
Yoop-Phoria and the Iron Bay Restaurant have seen graffiti appear lately. Marquette’s chief of police said they see this happen when the weather starts to get nice.
Grim added there are many cameras downtown and they are investigating the incidents.
“Every time it gets nicer, we have an uptick in graffiti that we deal with. It’s unfortunate, but that’s just kind of what we deal with here, we just ask the public if you see something suspicious to please call us. We try to be everywhere at all times but, that’s impossible. If you see something suspicious let us know, take a picture and there’s a lot of cameras in the downtown area,” MPD Chief of Police Ryan Grim said.
Vandalism or destruction of property is a misdemeanor under Michigan law. Possible penalties include a 93-day jail sentence, and/or a fine of $500 or up to three times the value.
