Andersonville Arts Weekend Returns With Street Fests, Walkable Art Gallery And Live Performances

ANDERSONVILLE — The neighborhood will get an artful overhaul this weekend with the return of Andersonville Arts Weekend.

The 19th annual Andersonville Arts Weekend takes place Friday through Sunday along Clark Street and sees over 100 artists showcasing their works in 40 local businesses. There will also be multiple street fests, performances and a history-focused tour of the neighborhood.

Artists specializing in painting, music, film, theater, visual art and dance will set up in local businesses, creating and displaying their works. A self-guided art walk, with both digital and printed maps available, allows neighbors to take in as many artist installations as they desire.

Friday will also see the arts weekend’s “Night of Parties,” an evening of artist receptions at local businesses. Nearly 20 local businesses will host parties for their resident artist, including meet-and-greets with food and beverages.

There will also be two block parties held as part of arts weekend.

Jackalope Theatre will host a block party celebrating its 15th anniversary season. It takes place 3-8 p.m. Saturday on Catalpa Avenue from Clark Street to Ashland Avenue and will include drinks, live performances, guest vendors and a DJ. Tickets cost $5.

Vintage shop Fad2Fresh will celebrate its 1-year-anniversary with an “old school block party” from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday on Hollywood Avenue between Clark Street and Ashland Avenue. The event will feature a DJ, vendors, food and games.

Midsommarfest favorite Dancing Queen: an ABBA Salute will host an acoustic performance 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Chicago Waldorf School, 5200 N. Ashland Ave. Tickets cost $25 in advance of $30 at the door.

Andersonville dance studio GUS will host a jazz and hip hop dance show at 2:55 p.m. Saturday at 5230 N. Clark St.

Chicago by Chicagoans will also lead a tour of Andersonville focused on its history at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sunday starting at Clark Street and Catalpa Avenue. Advanced registration is required by clicking here.
