Bracebridge school hit with hate graffiti again; how can kids better express themselves?

Once again, the rainbow sunbeam mural at Monck Public School in Bracebridge has been defaced in what appears to be a hate-motivated act. The same mural was repainted and refreshed by students after being vandalized with the same hurtful scrawl over the schoolchildren’s art in June.

“This mural was initiated by the students to beautify their outdoor space,” said Carolynne Bull, manager of communication services for Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB). “Not only are acts of vandalism hurtful to our students, staff and wider community, it is disrespectful and a crime. In situations such as these, we are fortunate that the school community comes together to support one another, but it is also a time to remind everyone that graffiti on school property is illegal and there are many other ways to express oneself.”
