Caledonia Elementary named National Blue Ribbon School

Caledonia —  Every morning at Caledonia Elementary, staff members greet students and ask them about their lives beyond the school walls.

Teachers offer their students frequent and consistent positive encouragement, helping to create a learning environment where students feel like they belong.

“Our teachers understand the art of teaching and place student engagement at the forefront of their planning,” said Principal Brent Huck, in describing what has helped the school earn the 2023 National Blue Ribbon School title by the U.S. Department of Education. The award was announced Sept. 19.

Deputy U.S. Secretary of Education Cindy Marten recognized 353 schools as 2023 honorees in a video statement, on behalf of the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.

This is the second time Caledonia Elementary has received the honor, previously winning the award in 1988. The school also joined Dutton Elementary, which received the recognition in 2021, as National Blue Ribbon Schools.

Caledonia Community Schools Interim Superintendent Dirk Weeldreyer said the National Blue Ribbon recognition is a testament to the school’s dedication and the outstanding support from staff, parents, and community.

He added: “Caledonia Elementary exemplifies the spirit of our district – a commitment to nurturing agile learners who make a positive difference in our community.”
