Local couple to be featured guests at Owensboro Comic and Toy Convention

Owensboro couple Robert and Shawn Lamb — an artist and an author, respectively — each have their own impressive resumes and have appeared at comic conventions across the country. This October, they will both be featured speakers a the Owensboro Comic and Toy Convention.

Robert is a former Filmation screenwriter and storyboard artist. He has worked on animated TV shows such as “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” “She-Ra, Princess of Power,” “Fat Alpert and the Cosby Kids,” “BraveStarr,” and many others. Robert also worked on “Darkwing Duck” for Disney and animated Ray Stevens in his video “The Streak.”

Shawn is a multi-award-winning author of fiction for ages 8 through adult, in the genres of fantasy and historical fiction. She started her career in Hollywood as a screenwriter for children’s television during the 1980s and received awards for excellence from the American Screenwriter’s Association. Taking her knowledge and expertise, Shawn created various fantasy series including Eldar, Allon, The Guardians of Allon, and The King’s Children.

The convention will take place October 7-8 and offer various panels and workshops covering all things comics, cosplay, fandom, and more. All sessions will be open to both sides of the industry — both consumer and producer — to allow everyone to engage with each other and learn other interests.

“We were thrilled to learn an event organizer we know from the convention circuit was coming to Owensboro. We immediately agreed to an appearance since we live here,” Lamb said. “It will be wonderful to see the city host a good convention.”

Visit Owensboro President Mark Calitri previously said he expects the Owensboro Comic and Toy Con this October to be the most-attended event ever at the Convention Center.

Exhibitors will be selling comic books, graphic novels, toys, games, and other merchandise. There will be a cosplay contest, complete with photo opportunities. In addition, tabletop games, card games, and video games will also be available during the convention.

Event Owner Jarrod Greer previously said that the convention will address every aspect of what people want in a pop culture event.

“The event will include celebrities, amazing creators, cosplay, gaming, and much more,” Greer said previously. “After successful events in Lexington and Huntington, we are extremely excited to come to Owensboro.”
