Metro Parks Centennial Art Center Celebrates Diversity with “Get Cultured!” International Exhibit

Centennial Art Center celebrates Nashville’s diversity with its annual international exhibit, Get Cultured! This exhibit joins the Celebrate Nashville Cultural Festival in providing the city of Nashville and middle Tennessee with an opportunity to enjoy art and culture from around the world. The artists in this exhibit were born in another country but now make Nashville home; their art adds to the beauty and vibrancy of this amazing city. This year’s Get Cultured! exhibit features paintings, photography, digital media, and ceramics. The exhibit opens with an artist reception on October 6, from 5:00-7:30 p.m. and will remain on display through October 30, 2023.

Get Cultured! will showcase sixteen artists from fifteen countries, Olga Alexeeva (painting, Russia), Olga Bankston (mixed-media painting, Ukraine), Micheal Edward (papyrus painting, Egypt), Jose Fuenmayor (painting, Columbia), Negin Ghaffari (pottery, Iran), Claudine Grant (painting, South Africa), Valentina Harper (drawing/painting, Venezuela), Mark Katsumi Kimura (photography, Japan), George K. Khoury (painting, Palestine), Vijay Makrandi (painting, India), Voymir Mustapich (painting, Croatia) Mike Quinones-Gonzalez (painting, Columbia), Christian Raborg Mazzini (digital art, Peru), Seemi Rizvi (photography, henna, Pakistan), Jana Rohlickova (ceramics, Czech Republic), and Nadine Shillingford (charcoal drawing, Dominica).

The Get Cultured! exhibit provides the public with a unique opportunity to engage with international artists, hear their stories, and learn how their diverse cultural backgrounds influence their artwork. During the gallery opening, visitors can sample international dishes from different countries and cultures. Centennial Art Center is located at 301 25th Avenue North in the northeast corner of Nashville’s Centennial Park.

Get Cultured! is open October 6-30, 2023. Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Celebrate Nashville Cultural Festival will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This multicultural festival offers free family fun and an authentic look at the customs and traditions of the many cultures within the Nashville community.
