Bizarre graffiti on signage between Lios Póil and Annascaul, advertising Dingle Oceanworld Aquarium, has been reported to Gardaí.

The graffiti, which it’s suspected was scrawled over the signage on Wednesday before last, has since been cleared, Oceanworld Director and Founder Kevin Flannery said. It says ‘Into the Night’ and includes a name, while a tractor was also drawn on the sign.

Nonetheless, Dr Flannery, who has worked with marine life in Dingle for many years, was saddened to see Oceanworld’s signage defaced.

He is also unsure what the motive for the graffiti was but he confirmed that he has contacted the guards.

“This isn’t good for anyone, we have of course contacted and informed the Guards but we don’t know [who did this],” said Dr Flannery.

“We think this might have happened Wednesday week. We don’t really know [what the motive was]” stated Dr Flannery.

Hazarding a guess as to why the vandals decided to deface the signs and why they referenced a name, Dr Flannery said: “We think it was someone who had a grudge or problem with a farmer or farming group, we don’t really know what it means, but we know he wrote names on both the signs on the road coming into Dingle.

“There were names used, which isn’t good. It’s not good for us and for motorists but vandalism will always be around,” Dr Flannery added.
