Stockport’s First Ever Street Art Festival Is Set To Paint The Town Red This Weekend

We’re no strangers to wonderful art here in Manchester, and have a special place in our hearts for street art. In that vein, get ready to witness the vibrant and dynamic world of street art coming to life at Stockport’s first ever Street Art Festival, the Stockport Paint Jam.

Taking place this Sunday (September 24) between 12 – 5pm on Canal Street, Stockport, the exciting event will feature over 20 top street artists from in and around the North West, promising an exhilarating day of creativity, culture and entertainment for all.

Street art enthusiasts, families and art aficionados are invited to witness the mesmerising talent of street artists up close and personal. Attendees will have a rare opportunity to see renowned artists such as Hammo, Marcus Method, Lost Hills, Kelzo, Jay Sharples, Hyro, Trik09 and many more in action, bringing the walls of Stockport to life with their incredible creations. Plus, skateboard enthusiasts can witness local professional skaters performing.

Stockport Paint Jam is the brainchild of Jay Sharples, a local street artist, and John and Sophie Macaulay of GRIT Studios. This event is a pivotal part of the GRIT Studios ‘Creative Corridor‘ project, which aims to transform Stockport into a vast outdoor art gallery by connecting the studio with the town’s historic Underbanks area.

The festival is not just about art; it’s a celebration of Stockport’s rich cultural heritage. It aligns with Stockport’s designation as the Town of Culture and continues the legacy of the La Boca to La Stocka community art project, fostering a sense of community and artistic expression.

John Macaulay, co-founder of GRIT Studios and Art Battle Manchester, said: “This is a new artistic chapter for the town as we bring art to the streets. Canal Street in Stockport is long overdue a splash of colour.”

The Stockport Paint Jam is a family-friendly event with activities for all ages. Children will have the opportunity to practice their own street art skills on specially provided boards; skateboard enthusiasts can witness professional skaters performing tricks on skateboard decks; and the event will be filled with music, featuring DJs Dylan and Ted, both 14 years old and hailing from Stockport, who will spin tunes to keep the energy high.

Plus, for those looking to savour the taste of local craft beverages, Runaway Brewery will be on hand to serve refreshing drinks, and a variety of delicious food options will be available to satisfy your cravings.

Stockport Paint Jam will be held on Canal Street, Stockport SK1 3BZ on September 24.
