Taipei, Sept. 7 (CNA) The police said on Wednesday that they arrested a man on suspicion of spray painting graffiti on a Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) carriage in mid-August.
In a statement released on Wednesday, police said a joint task force with the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office identified a male suspect surnamed Chiang (江) after reviewing almost 200 surveillance cameras across Taipei and New Taipei.
Based on their investigation, police said they found Chiang changed his clothes four times and transferred to multiple taxis after spray painting the EMU3000 train at a depot in Shulin District, New Taipei on the night of Aug. 12.
Although Chiang fled Taiwan after vandalizing the train, police said they received intelligence he was set to fly back to the country on Wednesday.
Chiang was arrested upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport and handed over to prosecutors for questioning on suspicion of violating the Railway Act and other offenses.
The police said the case allegedly involved two men, one of whom is Chiang, and the other is a foreigner.
Based on their investigation, the two were not involved in the mass rapid transit (MRT) graffiti incidents that happened across Taiwan in late August. However, law enforcement officials would expand their investigation into the case.
