The Brands: How Philipp Plein is celebrating its 25th anniversary

During the last edition of Milan Fashion Week, the German designer Philipp Plein celebrated its 25th anniversary by launching a colorful luxury and premium sportswear s/s 2024 collection, within an exciting carousel catwalk show, and party.

The event held at Allianz Cloud hosted over 5,000 guests including insiders and brand’s fans. Hyping the night event’s fun was the participation of two international music stars’ performance, US rappers Quavo and Saweetie.

The 45-year-old designer and entrepreneur, whose company’s headquarters are based in Lugano, Switzerland, manages a group that is totally self-financed, it employs over 700 women and men. Never tired and always looking for new challenges and initiatives, his company runs 110 stores worldwide and expects to close 2023 registering €225 million sales. He also owns, operates and develops two other brands, Billionaire and Plein Sports. This last one was recently rebooted with a more democratic and transversal approach than others and aims to grow soon according to an ambitious global expansion plan.

At the beginning of the Milanese night show and party, Plein personally stepped on the stadium’s arena and greeted his guests accompanied by his son Romeo Prince. He expressed his gratitude to all those who helped him achieve success, underlining how much the Milanese played a key role: “If I reached this goal is also thanks to Milan,” he said. He also made a wish, hoping that one day his boy may take the reins of his company in the future, along with his other two sons – an elder one living in Brazil and supporting the brand’s growth in the country, and a third one to be born in a few days.

The event continued as an over-the-top festival enlighten by eccentrically colored lights, enthusiasm, energy, and fun.

After Quavo’s live performance, models started walking around and around 30 roller-skaters flooded on the floor dancing. The catwalk metamorphosed into a skating ring, overtaken by looks inspired by and immersed in the ’80s atmosphere. From fashionable Venice Beach scenes to New York subways, from the shadows of skyscrapers all over the world including the most iconic fashion district of Milan, Plein wanted to embrace the whole world with his show and new collection, also featuring graffiti art from the streets of the cities on his newest collection.

Adding to this, the venue hosted a colorful flashing light carousel at the center of the location accompanying the show with music hits like “Girls wanna have fun”, “Take home me”, Working as a waitress” and “99 Luftballons”. At the end of the show, all models jumped on the carousel that started wheeling around at full speed, bringing all participant to an enchanted funky world.

Also, the s/s 2024 collection is definitely inspired by this same fun, being inspired by ‘80s colorful looks and styles for men and women, filled with positivity and enjoyment.

The Plein Woman is colorful, sensual, and light exploring dramatic mini-dresses à-la-Barbie, but very contemporary as carrying distinctive graffiti-iconic prints and conveying the message that the Plein woman is prepared to stand out.

The Plein Man is inspired by the same aesthetics. Dressed in Pop Art-inspired suits, he is featured with bubble graffiti’s patterns as an iconic element with pieces enriched with red flame prints, while exploring an intertwining of elegant and bold styles, while betting strongly again on elaborate pieces including heavily treated denim.

Philipp’s love of playing with color is projected into his world and into his maximalist silhouettes, made to enhance and embrace both the masculine and the feminine forms. The new frontier of Philipp Plein’s world transports us into a unique experience where Plein unites music, fashion, art, and culture to share the enjoyment of living life at full speed.
