The St. James Court Art Show is set for first weekend in October

The month of October holds many fun traditions and celebrations for everyone, but for residents of the St. James Court in Old Louisville, it means a little bit more. “It’s always fully packed, it’s going to be wonderful!” said Cindee Rapp, a St. James Court resident. Rapp is talking about the 67th annual St. James Court Art Show. Featuring 660 artists from across the country and attracting more than 250,000 visitors, the annual show is fun for the city, but also a great economic boost as well. “Our office estimates that it’s over a $5 million impact on the local economy,” said Mayor Craig Greenberg in a news conference on Wednesday. “It’s just yet another great example of how important arts is for a community, how it adds vibrancy and authenticity and creativity and energy to our community.”The show also brings in a lot of needed cash flow for the historic street, as proceeds go to help with the upkeep of the St. James Court.”When you see the Fountain of Saint James, the period lighting on 3rd Street, the special lighting on 4th Street; that’s because of the art show,” said executive director of the St. James Court Art Show, Howard Rosenberg. “The art show contributes about $250K to $270K back into this neighborhood on an annual basis, and I think that’s pretty incredible.”The show said it won’t have anything too surprising for visitors, besides the unique art. The show will feature performances in nearby Central Park, live music, food and drinks. However, a fan-favorite attraction is coming back this year.”So one thing that’s new is we’re going to have a merchandise booth again,” Rapp said. “We’re going to be selling posters for 1995 up to current. We have Hadley Pottery coasters of St. James Court and a fountain. We have T-shirts and mugs from years before.”The fun will kick off on Friday, Oct. 6 and run through Sunday, Oct. 8. The show is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fri. and Sat., but will close an hour earlier on Sunday at 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, click here.
