You Can Learn To Paint Like David Hockney At These Free Art Classes In London This Week

Following the release of their brand new documentary series, Celebrating David Hockney, Sky Arts is set to host an array of fun and free art workshops over the next week in London, helping art lovers unleash their inner artiste in celebration of the iconic British painter.

Artists such as Lizzie King, Eloisa Henderson-Figuero, and presenter Jade Connolly will each host a workshop in a stunning London location – each of which will bring tons of inspiration for guests to soak up during the session.

At the free-to-attend sessions, guests will step into the shoes of David Hockney, using plenty of colour to test out an array of mediums – including collage, pastels, paints, and pencils. All levels of ability are welcomed to the sessions, and the first one will kick off this week, on September 24th – with all materials provided.

Hosted by illustrator Lizzie King, the first session will explore the wonders of collage (inspired by the palette of David Hockney, of course) at Dalston Curve Garden, and guests will be able to take home the design on their very own t-shirt or tote bag to keep forever.

Later next week, artist Eloisa Henderson-Figuero will take the reigns at the Oxford House Rooftop in Bethnal Green on September 30th, teaching visitors how to draw landscapes just like Hockney and use the medium of collage like a pro.

Lastly, presenter Jade Connolly will be hosting a workshop at Spitalfields City Farm on September 30th, sharing her skills with oil pastels, acrylic paints, and mark-making.

It’s set to be the perfect way to tap into your creative side, and maybe even spark up a new hobby while you’re there. Budding artists can book their space here, but keep checking back for availability as slots open in intervals.

Workshops will also be taking place in other locations in the UK, including Hockney’s hometown of Bradford, Manchester and Glasgow.

Celebrating David Hockney is available to watch on Sky and NOW.
