‘Heroine Complex author Sarah Kuhn signing Lois Lane book as part of ‘Superman’s Cleveland’ events

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s an octogenarian! Carol & John’s Comic Book Shop is adding some unique flair to a series of events celebrating Superman’s 85th Anniversary.

This particular event, taking place Friday, Oct. 27, is focused on an alter ego of Clark Kent’s newsroom colleague and love interest — albeit from a prequel / origin story vantage point.

Sarah Kuhn, author of the popular “Heroine Complex” novels focused on Asian American superheroines, will be at Carol & John’s Comic Shop, 7462 Lorain Ave. in Cleveland’s Kamm’s Plaza from 6-8 p.m. Friday, signing copies of her original graphic novel “Lois Lane: Girl Taking Over.”

The event is part of a series of regional offerings under the “Superman’s Cleveland” umbrella, which began in September. The event schedule has delved into the many facets of the quintessential American superhero, created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel right here in Cleveland.

Laura Siegel Larson, Siegel’s daughter, will be on hand Friday, as will artist Dan Gorman, who will sign his Superman 85th print (which is free) and used as the overall “Superman’s Cleveland” event artwork.

All three guests will sign the poster as a great memento from this anniversary celebration.

The comic shop will also have copies of the free comic book day sampler of Kuhn’s, so that all attendees have something to collect signatures in.

The comic shop event is one of several Superman-related happenings this weekend, including lecture offerings with both Kuhn and Siegel at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a screening of Richard Donner’s 1981 film “Superman II” at the Cleveland Cinematheque.
