Kerry republican graffiti resurrects forgotten figure on Cork courthouse walls

IRA man known as ‘The One-eyed Gunner’ re-enters history after name graffitied in Kanturk Courthouse identified

The name and address of Fred ‘The One-eyed Gunner’ Healy was graffitied on a wall of Kanturk Courthouse and Bridewell during the Irish War of Independence.

A name that was graffitied on the walls of Kanturk Courthouse during the Irish War of Independence has recently been identified as being that of a long-forgotten republican from east Kerry who was known as ‘The One-eyed Gunner.’

Glenflesk IRA man, Fred Healy, marked his name and address on a wall of the bridewell attached to Kanturk Courthouse (a building dated from the mid-1820s) while imprisoned there by British forces but the historical graffiti was only discovered when plaster began to peel off the walls within the building due to damp conditions a few years ago.
