Cllr Bridiín Murphy has highlighted the need for CCTV to be turned on across New Ross as a matter of urgency after graffiti has started popping up on beauty areas in the town.
Speaking at the New Ross Municipal District meeting, Cllr Murphy said: “I’m disappointed to see there is no CCTV. Graffiti is starting to creep into the High Hill. We have magnificent facilities in the town and it’s extremely disappointing we are starting to see anti social behaviour.” She was responding to an update from area manager, Alan Fitzhenry, who said: “The CCTV scheme pack, approved by the Garda Commissioners Office, is still with Garda HQ. The Gardaí have recently requested updated vetting for the file from some of the officials involved.” He said this process will take a number of weeks and possibly months to conclude. “Once received, the project can progress to issuing the CCTV tender. The GP section of the council is overseeing the tender process and work has already begun on the requirements for civil and electrical elements. It is planned for advance ground works to start as soon as the final, approved, pack has returned from the gardaí.”
