Philippe Clement kickstarted his Light Blues reign with a strong performance and three points but the occasion was marred by a section of the Leith fans at full-time.

Many seats were destroyed in the away corner between the Broomloan Stand and the Sandy Jardine Stand, where fans desecrated the seats with spray paint.

The yobs wrote various messages including the number ’66’ on the seats – cruelly mocking the Ibrox disaster where 66 Rangers fans died from a crush inside the stadium in 1971.

Stickers were also placed which contained pictures of Stairway 13 saying: “Stairwell Thirteen – it’s the greatest sight that I have ever seen.”

They also mocked the death of Queen Elizabeth II and wrote messages supporting the IRA.

A statement from Rangers on the damage read: “Rangers condemns in the strongest possible terms the graffiti and stickers left by a section of the Hibernian supporters at Ibrox this afternoon.

“The Ibrox Disaster remains the darkest day in our club’s history, and continues to affect a number families to this day.

“The mocking and celebration of such an event is outrageous, and has no place in any football stadium or society as a whole.
