A number of comic book-related events will be hosted for families and children at libraries on Thursday
Comic book events for children will be held in County Cork libraries.
A number of comic book-themed events will take place as Cork County Library and Arts Service holds its first ever Comic Book Festival.
The celebration of all things comics will kick-off on Thursday, November 2 when several library branches host different events to entertain young comic book fans.
Mallow Library will host a ‘Comic Con’ with a number of events scheduled to take place.
Superhero-themed story times will be held at the library at 11am, 2pm and 4pm while there will also be a ‘Design your own Superhero Competition’ which will see a prize awarded for the best design.
Visitors will also be able to dress up as their favourite comic book characters and have their picture taken at the photo wall. The best costume will receive an award.
In addition, attendees will also be able to check out Mallow Library’s great collection of graphic novels.
Bantry Library will host a mask making workshop at 11am on Thursday and the winner of its comic competition will also be announced.
Cobh Library will hold a series of comic book swaps for kids (11am to 12pm) and teenagers (3pm – 4pm) looking to freshen up their comic collections on Thursday.
Dunmanway library will hold a ‘Dress Up Day’ and families are invited to attend dressed as their favourite superhero, game, comic or storybook character.
Games, story times and craft sessions will be held at the event on Thursday and the best-dressed family will be awarded a special prize.
Kinsale Library will hold a ‘Wand and Spell’ workshop for kids aged up to 10 at 3pm on Thursday (bookings must be made by calling 021-4774266).
A ‘Superhero Sock Puppet and Comic Book’ workshop will be held at Skibbereen Library on Thursday at 11am for children aged seven and over (bookings must be made by phoning 028-22400).
On Saturday, November 4 Schull Library will host an ‘Introduction to Comics’ workshop facilitated by editor Colin O’Mahoney.
The event is open to all second level students who aspire to create comics and will cover the basics of writing and illustrating graphic narratives and self-publishing (bookings must be made by phoning 028-28290).
