Iron Creek Trail graffiti sparks outrage

DEADWOOD — A local hiker is outraged at the graffiti someone painted on the landscape along a popular Spearfish Canyon trail. And he’s determined to get to the bottom of the atrocities committed against nature.

“My wife and I were hiking on the Iron Creek Trail, and this was a day or two after Halloween,” said Mark Young of Spearfish. “One-half mile up the trail is a boulder in the stream, a very large boulder.  It’s the biggest boulder in that stream. It’s very scenic and beautiful lichen-covered boulder. It has been defaced, using spray paint. So, of course, we’re just dismayed, because we love the canyon. We love the beauty.”
