After being left waiting for around five and a half months, fans of Street Fighter 6 finally got to see what its first big group of DLC costumes is going to look like in the latest trailer for the game.
On top of that, Capcom has now released the official concept artwork for all 18 Outfit 3 designs for SF6 along with developer notes as to why they came up with them in the first place.
Although we had seen some of these images previously like those of Ken and Juri, this is our first chance to look at the art for most others featuring Kimberly, JP, Chun-Li, Ryu, Manon, E. Honda, Dhalsim, Zangief, and Blanka.
The design team also included interesting notes from the design team for each costume that goes into the what the developers were going for in all of them and how they may have evolved over their first inception.
Kimberly’s, for example, is what the designers thought she’d consider “ninja-like” but still being cute while Jamie’s more formal Chinese clothes represent his upbringing and his original master being his grandmother — though they didn’t want him to be too formal.
JP was originally going to go for a more western approach and maybe a black robe, but the devs decided to give him a Nayshall-inspired outfit to tie into the story.
And the dude looks absolutely jacked with his robe off.
Chun-Li’s is described as her casual wear that still allows her to move freely and look elegant.
They also note that her basketball pants with the buttons make them easier to put on with her thick thighs.
As for Ryu, these are apparently his “normal clothes” that he does when he comes down from the mountains to do shopping or waiting on laundry in the art while his headband is apparently actually a bath towel.
The design team considered a ballet dancer costume for Manon, but ended up going with more of a French noble — and there was also apparently talks to make her bottom half into a horse, which could have been quite funny.
If there was any doubts, they confirm Cammy’s Outfit 3 is based on her red coat look from the Street Fighter 2 animated movie though they updated it to be more modern and functional.
