Welcome to the return of Trade Secrets. I wanted to give a special Thank You to Phil Newton who used to write this article a few years back. Phil gave us at least 40 articles you can go back and review for more great info.
I figured its been a while and there’s some new TPB’s, Omnibus, and Hardcover Editions to look out for that may sell for a bit more than you might expect. Plus I will put my own little spin on the idea and do an accompanying video with at least a dozen books while the article will spotlight about four.
Check out the video if you want to see some more books that I talked about this week that are not presented below:
As I always say, Comics should be fun; and I want to provide content that keeps this hobby the good time that it should be. So, without further ado, let’s see what you should be looking out for at those used bookstores, good will stores, etc…
Hellblazer Vol. 20: Systems of Control
Collects HELLBLAZER #230-238 and the HELLBLAZER: ALL HIS ENGINES original graphic novel. I was shocked to see how much this TPB sells for. Released in 2019 this hard to find Out of Print (OOP) collected edition is a gem out there hiding and waiting for you to find it.
While you can pick up all of the floppies for much cheaper, this collected edition is sought after by collectors who may wish to have a complete TPB run on their shelves.
Batman: Second Chances
Collects BATMAN #402, 403, 408-416 and ANNUAL #11. In these issues Batman meets Jason Todd. This is another reminder how TPB collecting is an entirely different animal. One would think if the single issues are easily attainable, why would anyone pay a premium for them collected in a reprinted Trade? But they do as evidenced below. Look at that ROI.
Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash
Collects the 6-issue miniseries. Horror TPB’s always seem to be collectable. These trades bring together two rabid fanbases of collecting and it drives high prices. Horror fans spend $$$, Comic fans spend $$$, so its should be too much of a surprise that these trades cost $$$.
Classic G.I. Joe Vol. 15
Collects Issues #146-155. Yes even the final trades are collectable as this volumes collects the last of the Marvel run on the title. Now this one has always been pricey selling for a couple hundred, but something spiked this TPB to nuclear territory. Look at those last 2 auctions. Thanks to my buddy Wayseeker for the heads up on those sales as that ignited the ide to bring this series back.
