Zelda, The Maxx, Invincible Meets Batman and More!

Welcome back everyone.  Thank you for stopping by to check out the latest TF. You can also find me here: @comic_book_true_firsts

Comico Primer

First appearance of the Maxx

I am mentioning this one again because there was some sort of update recently on a live action Maxx film, and I started to see some comic resources mention issue 1. The thing is, Comico Primer 5 is the first appearance of the Maxx.  This fact was known wayyyy back when The Maxx debuted but ver time the narrative changed, probably because the Maxx’s popularity had subsided and there were few appearances after the series ended.  The popularity of the character has continued though and looking at the Maxx in Primer it does seem like a prototype like appearance.  But some information from the actual Maxx comic put that to bed and it’s really impossible to deny that this book is the Maxx’s first. It’s time to stop denying the actual creator’s words on this sort of stuff.  This is a true for Superior Spider-Man as it is for The Maxx, agendas be damned.

Sometimes it helps to look for more evidence and one way to do that is to look at fan letters.  If a comic has a letter page it’s a good place to look because you are getting information directly from the creator.  In this case, not only does the ad for I Before E confirm what was true then, but Sam Keith confirms some other things, like Darker Image coming out after the Maxx 1. He also states that the reading order does not matter for  so for those claiming that Darker Image 1 is the chronological first we can put that puppy to sleep here. It also confirms that Primer is the first appearance of The Maxx, in two instances.  Sam had major plans in his mind for Max the Hare. He stated in Comic Talk and it is also stated in I Before E 2 that he had a continuity planned for the character. I know that some will continue to perpetuate the falsehood but you really cannot deny the evidence.

Nintendo Power

First comic strip appearance of Link

Here’s another repeat post from me.  There was a Japanese manga that was released in the late 80’s without a US translation making it the comic true first. If you are looking for a US first for Link that occurs here. This predates the Valiant series and the Graphic Novel.

Invincible 33

First meeting of Invincible and Batman

I have been screaming about this one for years.  It’s finally starting to get some love.  It’s full of treats and a beat-down to remember.

—–OTHER STUFF—–

This section is reserved for all the other stuff I am looking for this week. True Firsts may or may not appear.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Promo and The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess FCBD

There aren’t a lot of tradition comics for Zelda after the Valiant Series.  These two are undervalued imo.

Do you Pooh 3

There is also a foil for this but I like this one more.  The Pooh concept is kind of trashy but I keep finding covers I like.

This issue of Terror is all about the hand.

Drone

And finally, here’s another Hanselmann winner. See ya next week.
