Nativity scene on Boston Common vandalized with graffiti

A nativity scene on Boston Common was found defaced with graffiti Thursday morning, police said.

At 7:57 a.m. officers from District A-1 responded to 139 Tremont St. and saw that the base of the nativity scene had been vandalized with graffiti, according to Officer Jason Villanueva, a spokesperson for the Boston Police Department.

News stations shared photos on social media Thursday morning that showed the words “‘Jesus was Palestinian” had been painted on the nativity.

The incident is under investigation and “no further information is available at this time,” Villanueva said.

By 11 a.m. there was no trace of the graffiti left; it had been painted over.

This is a developing news story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
