Police Make Second Arrest After $316,000 Banksy Art Ripped From Pole

Police made a second arrest in connection with the suspected theft of a Banksy artwork ripped from a pole in south London.

A video published by The Guardian showed two men taking down the artwork at the intersection of Southampton Way and Commercial Way in Peckham on Friday.

Banksy posted on Instagram the artwork— a traffic stop sign covered with three military drones— nearly an hour before it was stolen. The Daily Mail reported that the “drone stop” sign is worth  £250,000 ($316,887).

The artist’s followers on Instagram interpreted his work as a call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

The aircrafts in the artwork stop sign were similar to the trio of drones in Banksy’s 2017 Civilian Drone Strike.

In that artwork, which was auctioned for £205,000 ($259,847), according to The Guardian, the drones were bombing a childlike drawing of a house.

Banksy is a pseudonym of a UK-based street artist and political activist whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed.

His famous artwork included the “Balloon Girl” of 2002, which was a series of murals across London streets.
