Gilman artist prepares for Groundhog Day

As the calendar soon will turn to February, a familiar face will be climbing out of its burrow with a prediction of weather.

On Friday, Punxsutawney Phil will make his annual appearance for Groundhog Day. The long-held tradition states if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and sees its shadow, it will retreat to its den and winter will go on for six more weeks; if it does not see its shadow, spring will arrive early.

Drew Carriker, 30, of Gilman, is an artist with Merchant Street Art Gallery of Artists with Autism and recently completed a project called The Groundhog Brothers.
