Graffiti punks tag Callander blue

Vandals broke out the blue spray paint and went to town in Callander over the weekend.

They hit the playground equipment in Centennial Park, painting what looks like “MGO” or “MGD” across the plastic wall on the big ship. Another section of the ship was sprayed as well – also in blue paint – but the lettering could not be made out.

Crossing the street, the vandals then sprayed what appears to be crudely written profanity upon the Veterans Ridge sign, outside of the senior’s complex.

“It’s always unfortunate that people damage the community in any way,” said Mayor Robb Noon. “It costs the community, so that’s unfortunate. We try to keep our downtown and parks beautiful.”

Indeed, keeping the town appealing and in tip-top shape is part of the municipality’s official plan, and vandalism, although very rare, is taken very seriously.

“We have contacted the OPP about the graffiti,” the Mayor continued, “and we are checking our cameras to see if we can identify anyone.”

The Operations team has removed the paint, making the rounds this past Tuesday, a can of Graffiti Remover in hand. The work went smoothly, the staff explained, but it took time out of the day, and those cans of Graffiti Remover cost around $18.

If anyone noticed someone walking about with some blue paint on them or knows who was involved, the Mayor encourages you to reach out to the Municipal Office “with any information.”
