Father and son facing more charges for additional anti-Semitic graffiti found in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK (WGME) — The father and son accused of painting anti-Semitic graffiti in Harpswell have now been charged with doing the same thing in Brunswick.

Police say swastikas and racial slurs were painted on speed limit signs in the area of Cooks Corner in Brunswick on Jan. 7.

Police announced on Friday that they charged 49-year-old William Deary and his son, 18-year-old Hayden Deary, both of Harpswell, with criminal mischief.

The pair was previously charged with criminal mischief after police say graffiti featuring a swastika and a reference to the Holocaust was painted on the roadway at the intersection of Stevens Corner Road and Harpswell Islands Road in Harpswell.

Authorities believe these cases may rise to the level of Civil Rights Violations on the state or possibly federal level.

The investigation is also being sent to the Office of the Attorney General to be reviewed as a possible Civil Rights case to be brought against both individuals by the Office of the Attorney General.
