Graffiti at an Acton elementary school prompted local police to investigate the campus after they found that it mentioned a weapon, police said on Thursday.
At around 10 a.m., Luther Conant School’s administration contacted Acton police about graffiti found at the school, the police department said in a statement. When officers saw the graffiti, they found that it contained language about a weapon being brought onto the school grounds.
Police started to search the school building while it went into a shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution, the department said.
“All students were safe in their designated classrooms during the search of the building,” police said.
Massachusetts State Police and State Police K9 units helped Acton police with the search. By 1:20 p.m., no weapon was found and police determined there was no threat to the school, the department said.
While the shelter-in-place was lifted, an Acton police officer will be stationed at the school for the rest of Thursday.
