The Menahga Police Department is investigating vandalism that occurred around Feb. 2-4.
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, the department posted this on their Facebook page: “Menahga is a beautiful city, and we like to keep it that way. Unfortunately, this weekend, someone decided it was a good idea to deface someone else’s property and spray paint graffiti on various locations on the northwest side of town.”
Anyone with any information about this “disgraceful act” is encouraged to call the police at 218-564-4516 or send a private message to their Facebook page.

Menahga Police Chief Amy Lane said callers may remain anonymous. “Help us catch these vandals so no one else becomes a victim.”
Lane explained, “‘GD’ stands for ‘Gangster Disciples,’ which is an African American street and prison gang that was formed back in the 1960s. G is the seventh letter of the alphabet and D is the fourth letter of the alphabet,” hence the “74” reference in the graffiti.

“I guarantee we don’t have those gangs here in Menahga,” Lane added.
On Thursday, Lane said she had “received numerous tips and believe I have my suspect.”
