A striking piece of street art in Dorrell Place, Brixton, celebrating ‘The Heroes of Palestine’ has been defaced within days of its completion.
The artwork, created by creativedebuts, featured Bisan Owda who is a Palestinian filmmaker, activist, and journalist best known for her social media videos documenting the 2023 Israel–Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.
Another artwork in the series can be seen in Brick Lane, east London, celebrating Ezzeddin Lulu, a medical student who says:
At Al Shifa Hospital, I have worked tirelessly since this past October, working 24-hour shifts to care for the influx of catastrophic injuries.
I suffered the loss of 20 beloved family members, including my own father, brother, niece, and uncles, as a result of a targeted bomb attack on my home. Now, it’s only me and my wounded mother.
Despite these profound losses, I remain resolute in my determination to care for my surviving family members and pursue my dream of becoming a medical doctor.
I strive to graduate and earn my M.D., fulfilling a promise to myself and honouring the legacy of my father.”
