Bustling US street is one of the coolest on earth thanks to food truck scene

TALK about street style – one piece of pavement has been named as one of the best places to chow down while also enjoying the culture.

From food to art, the winning avenue is described as being not just a top place to visit in the country, but also the world.

It turns out that everything is not only bigger in Texas, but also better.

According to Time Out, East Eleventh, which makes up a quarter mile east of 1-35 in Austin, is the third “coolest” street in the world.

Located in one of the most art-centric cities, this street has gained a “beloved status” among the locals for its bustling mix of food and coffee.

And their famous bites aren’t the only thing the block has going for itself.

East Eleventh is also home to a historic venue and backyard stage, adding to the bespoke feel that keeps the “city’s soul alive.”

They advise buying locally designed boots from Helm, indulging in “game-changing” brisket and other BBQ grub from Franklin’s Barbeque, and taking in a speakeasy at Busy Signal.

Even past presidents such as Barack Obama have been known to wait in line for a true taste of Texas at Franklin’s.

The traveling pros also recommend a specialty cheeseburger from the rooftop spot Paperboy and visiting the reading rooms at Vintage Bookstore and Wine Bar.

You can also take in a show Kenny Dorham’s Backyard, a venue described as feeling like a “permanent house party.”

The iconic Austin moontowers are also highly recommended.

Perhaps one of the biggest things that has put Austin on the map is their mouthwatering food truck scene.

Featuring a wide range of cuisines, their trucks are part of the city’s culture and this can be felt – and tasted – all across East 11th.

Not only will you find unique murals but also every kind of fare you can fathom.

From “out of this world” tacos at Cosmic Taco to island-style grub at Tony’s Jamaican Food, and of course more Texas-style barbeque at Micklethwait Craft Meats, Thrillist has rounded up their favorite spots.

Non-meat eaters won’t be left out at Community Vegan while the Detroit-inspired Delray Cafe can be found inside Nickel City.

According to Fathom, the street is not only “the best place to be in Austin,” but also describes it as being the new “South Congress,” a more commonly visited street.

The now hopping address might not have had much going for it 15 years ago aside from a few historical landmarks, but fast forward to today and the area already has new institutions.

This is especially true when it comes to satisfying your stomach.

French bistro Dahlia is already famous for its tartines, while brisket fried rice can be found at the neighboring Old Thousand restaurant which puts a “modern twist” on traditional Chinese fare.

Hillside Farmacy, a former pharmacy featuring an outdoor space resembling “Parisian atmosphere,” has also preserved much of the space’s interiors.

After exploring and eating – which you’ll most likely be doing a lot of – they advise staying at the husband and wife owned Hotel Eleven which offers a boutique hotel experience and its own namesake bar.

There are also plenty of shopping options including vintage boutiques, as well as wellness spaces.

They are also fans of the wings and foot-long Coney at the Delray Cfe food truck.

While things might be busy now, the newly renovated J&J Spirits has been preserved to remind visitors of the area’s charm from days gone by.
