Cleaning up graffiti and garbage — what to do when people trash local wilderness

For the selfish criminals who dumped garbage at the river in Lewiston and spray-painted hearts on river rocks last month in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, nothing says: “I love you” like leaving graffiti and trash for your neighbors to clean up.

One group of locals who love the area are organizing to hopefully erase the defacement and clean up the refuse. Unfortunately, they are not alone. Across the county, illegal dumping and graffiti continue to destroy favorite outdoor recreation sites.
