“I was angry, upset,” said Patricia Mellor, CEO of the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains. “Trying to figure out our timeline before our girls came to camp.”

The Girl Scouts won’t report to Camp Kettleford for another two weeks. Mellor said this is the worst vandalism she has seen at one of the organization’s camps.

“We’re going to have to devote resources to cleaning this up vs. preparing the camp,” she said.

Camp Kettleford hosts 300 girls each summer. The graffiti was painted on buildings, cabins and fences and ranged from tags to phrases, including some that are inappropriate.

“This is one of our cabins that girls would stay in, and for the graffiti, what we have is what I believe is an eye on the top of the roof with the incorrectly spelled words, ‘Skool Sucs,'” Mellor said.

Laclair said he had a message to the people at fault.

“Do better,” Laclair said. “Just do better. This is just ridiculous.”

Mellor said that if someone’s looking for a creative outlet, there are other ways.

“If you’d like to paint, let us know,” she said. “We have buildings that can be painted in a positive way, rather than this negative, harmful way.”

Mellor said that if the graffiti isn’t fully removed, the scouts will avoid those areas, but they’re asking for people to help with the cleanup, and they plan to install gates in the next two weeks.
