A 33-year-old Warren man has been charged with two federal misdemeanor resulting from allegations he spray painted racist graffiti aimed at Black people on a Roseville church and in a Warren park bathroom.
David Bluer was charged Wednesday in U.S. District Court with damaging religious property and interfering with federally protected activities, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The incidents date back to October 2021 when someone painted the swastikas and the word, “die,” and other graffiti on a predominantly Black church in Roseville, officials said in a news release. Also, swastikas, a racist slur and symbols, and other graffiti were allegedly painted by Bluer in a bathroom at Trombley Park, located west of Hayes Road between 10 Mile and Frahzo roads, because Black people had been using the park, officials said. That graffiti included the statement, “DaviD KiLLS Ni–ERS,” officials said.
The FBI Detroit Field Office investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Frances Carlson for the Eastern District of Michigan and Trial Atorney Erin Monju of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division are prosecuting the case, officials said.
