LYNN — In conjunction with Boston Design Week, Beyond Walls is hosting its Lynn Street Art Tour on April 24.
Gathering at the agency’s headquarters, 18 Mt. Vernon St., tourists will head off around downtown Lynn, exploring various public art projects and taking in large scale street art from a collection of nearly 100 works.
Al Wilson, Founder and Executive Director of Beyond Walls said that this year, the tour will show the work that has been up for a few years, as well as new pieces that were installed late last summer.
“(The tour is) information behind the art, it’s background information on the artist and where they’re from, it’s what informed the artist and what is sort of detailed in their piece, and the meaning behind the piece,” Wilson said. “Then there’s the fun stories that happened during the installation.”
The tour starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. Wilson said he urges attendees to try out any local eatery that Lynn has to offer once the tour is concluded.
“Our hope is that people get to meet on these tours and start up a conversation and find out about each other,” Wilson said.
He said that community and art is so important in general, and street art brings the two together.
“For us, the power of street art is that there’s no barriers of entry, right? So, there’s no, sort of, rules of engagement. You get to take in the art how you come to it,” Wilson said, “The great thing about the artwork in Lynn is if one piece doesn’t appeal to you, and it’s not in the style that you like, you get to see a piece within sight (that you like).”
