
FORT ST. JOHN —
There is growing concern among residents in Fort St. John about the rise of vandalism on city streets and parks.
Over the weekend, the side of a home on 105 Avenue and 89th Street was tagged with a racial slur and other profanity in bold colours, visible from street view and to passersby.
Residents responded to the graffiti on social media, calling the incident upsetting and saying it is not a reflection of the community.
There is currently no indication if the incident was hate motived.
The graffiti is one of many instances around the city with reports of vehicles and businesses having also been defaced over the last serval weeks.
Over the weekend, signage along the Fish Creek Trail was spray painted with profanity, but the markings have since been removed.
Graffiti also littering the barriers, the ground entering the trail, and an adjacent baseball diamond.
Dr. Kearney Middle School also being hit by graffiti, with the side of the school and basketball court vandalized.
It is unknown if a single person or group of suspects are responsible.
Fort St. John RCMP could not be reached for comment in time for publication.
