French street artist JR creates optical illusion at Milan Central Station

JR installation coincides with Milan Design Week.

French street arist JR has unveiled a monumental trompe l’oeil illusion on the façade of Milano Centrale railway station as part of Milan Design Week.

The optical illusion, created with printed aluminium panels, features a gash through the centre of the station, evoking a tunnel excavated from rugged mountain terrain.

Titled La Nascita (The Birth), the public art installation is located in Piazza Duca d’Aosta and is on display from 10 April until 1 May.

The project, commissioned by Stazione Centrale, leads to an immersive exhibition inside the station – An Invitation To Dream by Moncler – running from 15-21 April.

JR is known for creating other ambitious street art projects in Italy in recent years, including at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence and Palazzo Farnese in Rome.
