Neighbor replaces vandalized boards at pedestrian walkover in Oak Island

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – The Oak Island Police Department says that graffiti was found at a bench at the new Davis Canal Pedestrian Walkover at SE 20th Street on Friday, March 29.

Per the OIPD, a juvenile was found responsible but offered the chance to work to remove the paint. After sanding failed, the juvenile’s parents bought replacement boards and scheduled the juvenile to meet with an OIPD officer to be supervised while the juvenile completed the work.

But before they could fix it on Sunday, someone unassociated with the town had already replaced the boards.

“We appreciate our entire community, and actively work with local partners to better this area every day. If you are interested in donating your time and efforts to fix problems or improve public property, please reach out to our staff first, so that we can work together for a better Oak Island,” an OIPD announcement states.
